ZMB Consulting and Behavior Management Inc. (ZMB), offers behavior services to families and care providers who are seeking professional guidance for children and adults with challenging behaviors. Our company focuses on providing positive behavior intervention strategies to achieve behavior goals and help all individuals become functional and independent. Our services are designed uniquely for each individual client based on the client’s needs. At ZMB we pride ourselves on providing proactive strategies to help minimize reactive responses. ZMB provides specific services which include: Consultation, Behavior training, Development of individualized assessments, behavior plans, Speech Therapy, and written and verbal translation.

Consultation ZMB offers consultation services to families and care providers who are seeking behavior services. Once referred to ZMB a consultant is assigned to the family or care provider. During the consultation phase the family or care providers will be able to express concerns regarding the client’s behaviors. The consultant will then determine if the client is in need of an assessment. If the consultant recommends the client for an assessment, the referring agency and family will be contacted and the assessment process will begin. Assessment The assessment process is an in-depth procedure in which the consultant will begin to gather data on the client and determine the cause of behaviors. The consultant will explore the client’s environment as well as the interaction between client and care providers. There are two types of assessment s that may be written during this phase. A Functional Analysis Assessment (FAA) or Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) may be written depending on the severity of behaviors exhibited by the client. FAA’s are used to address serious behavior problems that involve self-injurious, assaultive, or property damaging behaviors. The FAA is a fully comprehensive assessment that requires specific data to be collected through a review of previous records, interviews, and direct observation. The behaviors also need to be observed over a length of time and in a variety of settings. The goals addressed by the FAA are to 1) identify underlying causes of behavior, 2) develop alternative behaviors, and 3) identify behavioral supports and modifications that need to be made in the environment. [California Code of Regulations (Sec. 3052 of Article 5.)] In contrast to the FAA, FBA’s are utilized when the severity of behaviors are less threatening than that of a FAA requirement. The FBA is written for any client who needs behavioral support and whose behaviors result in disciplinary action. Data collection is also needed to conduct a FBA; however, the data is not required to be as extensive as an FAA. The goals of the FBA are identical to that of the FAA. Depending on the referring agency the process of assessments may vary. Some agencies have developed their own version of assessments and do not utilize the FAA or FBA guidelines. (34 CFR 300.346 (9) (2) (1) & 300.520).Behavior Training ZMB offers a variety of behavioral trainings for our client’s, families, and care providers. These trainings include Disability Awareness, Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Discrete Trial (DTT), Communication systems, Visual supports systems, Adaptive behavioral skills, Crisis Prevention, and Stress Management. All of our trainings are intended to help understand the different types of disabilities and the cognitive developmental challenges that may affect the individual. These trainings will help teach how to work with individuals with disabilities or behavior problems as well as model proactive strategies to minimize behavior. - Disability Awareness Training - This training covers different developmental disabilities and the differences amongst those disabilities. The trainer will provide information on common characteristics of each disability and how to work with an individual with that given disability. ZMB provides Disability Awareness Training for families and care providers; however, we also provide this training in classrooms to help other children understand their classmate with a disability and how to interact with that individual. - Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) - Applied Behavior Analysis is a scientific approach to behavior that examines how different environmental factors affect behavior. This training will address what ABA in more depth and provide a background of how and why behaviorists use ABA to help modify behavior. - Discrete Trial Training (DTT) - Discrete Trial Training is a teaching mechanism used to help break tasks down into smaller sections at a time. DTT uses prompting, repetition, and reinforces to help teach the desired skill. This training will provide more information on DTT, as well as demonstrate how to use this teaching approach. - Communication Systems (i.e. Picture Exchange Communication System) - Communications Systems are augmentative or alternative ways for an individual to communicate with others. Developmental disabilities are frequently accompanied by delays in speech development, and therefore clients need assistance communicating their wants and needs. This training will provide information on different types of communication systems and how to use these them. Commonly used communications systems include: Picture Communication Systems (PECS) and Dynavox. - Visual Support Systems - Visual Support Systems include items such as: schedules, choice boards, PECS, Communication cards, activity strips, token economies, etc. This training will review what types of visual supports may be necessary depending on the client’s needs. You will also learn how to create visual supports as well as resources to find visual supports that may have already been created. - Adaptive Behavior Skills - Adaptive Behavior Skills are daily skills needed to help promote independence for every client. Adaptive behavior skills include dressing, hygiene, making meals, chores, etc. Adaptive Behavior Skills training will help give ideas on age-appropriate tasks that will guide the client towards independence. - Crisis Prevention - Crisis Prevention training focuses on providing proactive strategies to cope with dangerous or injurious behaviors. This training will teach how to help prevent behaviors from occurring. It will also demonstrate how to respond to behaviors when the behavior has already escalated. - Stress Management - Stress Management Training focuses on providing coping strategies to deal with stress. This training will provide strategies to help reduce stress and anxiety as well as provide resources that are available to help families and care providers. Translation ZMB provides written and verbal translators for client’s and care providers whose primary language is not English. The translators work closely with ZMB’s behavior team to ensure that information is transferred properly from the professional to the family, client, and care providers. As a result, we are able to provide quality services to our consumers and properly serve the client’s needs. Speech Therapy Speech and Language Therapy can address all aspects of communication. Specific skills in the areas of understanding and expression are assessed in the following areas: sound and voice, production, fluency of speech, concept and vocabulary development, grammar and syntax, and social communication. An individualized program is then developed to address areas of need in a way that it is both engaging and meaningful to the client. The ultimate goal is to improve effectiveness of communication in all settings: home, school, and community.

12/20/2011 President and CEO Zoee Bartholomew will be at the Napa City Counsel meeting to speak about her integrated after school program she and her staff started in 2011. Ms. Bartholomew and her staff created a program that brought childern with disabilities and children with non-disabilities together to participate as one in this program.
